The Barbados Football Association (BFA) was founded in 1910
and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010.
Bridgetown, Barbados – The Barbados Football Association (BFA) has today
released an official statement regarding media reports surrounding the launch
of Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) technology at the Prime Minister’s Cup from
the quarter finals stage of the competition.
The BFA has clarified that in light of these
reports, it was contacted by FIFA to reaffirm their regulations that as a
mandatory process every Member Association must follow the Implementation
Assistance and Approval Programme (IAAP) in order to implement the use of VAR to
support the officiating of local competitions.
As the governing body for football in Barbados, the
BFA has confirmed that it has not undertaken the official process to receive
FIFA certification for the use of VAR in Barbados, and therefore at this point
in time the technology is not authorized to be employed at any competition on
the island.
When local football intends to introduce VAR, the
BFA has stated that it will work closely with FIFA to obtain the relevant certification
and will engage key local football stakeholders to ensure the domestic roll out
of the cutting-edge technology meets the stipulated international criteria.
