The Barbados Football Association (BFA) was founded in 1910
and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010.
Bridgetown,
Barbados – The Barbados Football Association
(BFA) has today announced the return of women’s football in Barbados.
The Women’s
Development Cup will take the form of a 7-a-side Tournament and will commence
this Saturday 9th November 2024 at the BFA Technical Centre in Wildey
with the first two matches scheduled for 4pm, followed by two matches at 5pm.
Teams
taking part include:
Zone A: RF Prime,
Paradise FC, Technique FC, Mavericks FC
Zone B: Weymouth
Wales, White Hall Academy, Fitts Village FC, Pinelands
Last month,
the BFA engaged in stakeholder feedback sessions with local women’s football
clubs to listen to their suggestions for the way forward for local women’s
football. Emerging from this was the agreement to restart football for women immediately
with a 7-a-side Tournament.
In 2025,
the 7-a-side format will be restarted as part of the official Women’s Football
Competitions, which is aligned with the BFA’s continued commitment to female
football development and to encourage higher participation of women and girls
in football island-wide.
